Programming: JavaScript

The course builds properly from the beginning. You start with the fundamentals of programming and JavaScript syntax, then move into object-oriented programming, asynchronous code and the Fetch API. Testing is a dedicated section, covering test-driven development with Mocha. The final part covers data structures and algorithms: the content that takes a developer from writing code that works to writing code that scales.

• Work with functions, arrays, scope and objects in JavaScript
• Handle async operations with promises and async/await
• Make HTTP requests using the Fetch API
• Write unit tests and follow test-driven development with Mocha
• Implement linked lists, stacks, queues, trees, heaps and sorting algorithms

The course concludes with an exam. Included is one free attempt at the JSA™ Certified Associate JavaScript Programmer certification, a documented proof of your skills that carries weight in a job application.

Programming Fundamentals

• Understand how code works and think like a programmer
• Learn control flow, variables and data types from scratch
• Build a solid foundation before writing JavaScript

Intermediate JavaScript

• Work with classes, modules and object-oriented programming
• Handle asynchronous code with promises and async/await
• Make HTTP requests using the Fetch API

Data Structures in JavaScript

• Implement nodes, linked lists, queues, stacks and hash maps
• Work with trees, heaps and graphs in JavaScript
• Understand how data structures affect performance

JavaScript Core

• Work with functions, scope, arrays and loops
• Use higher-order functions and iterators effectively
• Build and manipulate objects with getters and setters

Testing and Code Quality

• Understand the principles of test-driven development (TDD)
• Write unit tests with Mocha and the Node.js assert library
• Catch bugs early and build more reliable software

Algorithms in JavaScript

• Implement bubble sort, merge sort and quicksort
• Work with recursion, binary search and graph traversal
• Analyse algorithmic complexity with asymptotic notation
